Hibu Website Review – Is Hibu Really Worth the Money?

Hibu Website Review

Hibu is an international company offering website design and online marketing services for local businesses big and small.  Operated by the Yellow Pages, Hibu relies on the brand of its parent company for trust.  Used by thousands of businesses across the world, you would be forgiven for thinking Hibu is your one-stop solution to your online marketing needs.  However Hibu isn’t necessarily the answer to all of your problems.  In fact, they may create a few. Take a look at our Hibu website review to learn more.

We’ve spoken to many present and past Hibu clients and to be fair, some of them are happy with the service Hibu provides. But quite a few of their clients, past and present, are not. They were waiting for their contract to expire so they could move to another web provider. What many people fail to realize however is that once Hibu has it’s claws on you, it’s very difficult to escape. Thousands of disgruntled customers have found that out to their misfortune.

The price

If you are already a Hibu customer, you will be fully aware of how much they charge for their service.  Hibu offers a complete package, with everything you would expect from an online marketing package.

For those thinking about using Hibu for their business, here’s a breakdown of what you can expect to pay (based on a 12 month contract):

  • $599 one-time fee for website design.
  • $19 per month web hosting (standard fee for web hosting).
  • $29.99 per month support fee (For a lot of businesses, they may only make one or two changes to their website per year, and really don’t need to be paying $29.99 per month for 2 changes to their website).
  • $19.99 per month video marketing.

See Hibu’s four pricing plans courtesy of http://hibuwebsitereviews.com/price-of-a-hibu-website/. (Disclaimer – this site was put up by a former Hibu employee. We can’t vouch for its accuracy).

But it doesn’t stop here. These costs keep rolling on, month after month. As you use the service, you can expect to pay the same amount every month, whether you’re getting results or not.  If you decide to cancel the service everything goes away, the website, the video, the works.

The SEO is non-existent or “generic”

Hibu promises to get your site on page one of a Google search for your business in your town. They keep their promise but as SEO experts we can spill the beans on that. To get a business on the first page for a single keyword isn’t that difficult and shouldn’t be that expensive. It’s certainly not something you need to pay $100.00 a month for in perpetuity. What about the next town over? You’re out of luck, Hibu will not get your site ranked there.

To compete online you need to optimize the website with the right keywords, meta tags and good quality content.   While Hibu SEO efforts have improved marginally in recent times, their sites still have little on-site optimization. There are many gaps which aren’t filled, such as no or incorrect image alt tags, SEO site maps, or poorly used heading tags.

You’re simply “renting” your web properties

We keep referring to “your site”. It’s actually Hibu’s site that they’re renting to you. Where most people’s frustration with Hibu stems from is the fact that in many cases they hold their customers web properties for ransom.  If you decide to end your contract with Hibu, you won’t have a lot to show for it.

Hibu still owns your website and claims your online listings such as Google My Business, Bing and other directories.  If you want to make any changes, or simply maintain control of your Google listings you’re at their mercy.

Remember that when it comes to local searches, industry experts cite Google My Business as the most critical ranking factor.  If you can’t take control of your own Google My Business page, let alone see what’s going on inside it, you’ve got no hope of making changes or improvements.   The same can be said for Hibu’s video marketing package, at a steep $19.99 per month, your videos are hosted on Hibu’s YouTube account, minimally optimized and you’ve guessed it, you still don’t own it!

For more information on Hibu, see the Yelp reviews of the King of Prussia office.

Simply put, if you are thinking of using Hibu to get more exposure online, take a little time to consider what you’re getting yourself into.  If you are already with Hibu, are you really getting your money’s worth?  Shopping around for a reputable and effective web and SEO company is your best strategy. Make sure Elvin Web Marketing is on your list.

We’ve never used Hibu (Why on earth would we?). So we have no firsthand knowledge about Hibu’s business practices. We have quite a few clients who used to be Hibu clients and their stories are similar; lack of results, lack of control and lack of service. Have you had a website with Hibu? What has been your experience? Let us know in the comments below!

  1. I think we have been scammed by HIBU. 7 months with them still no results. I created my own website and maintain all the search engines we appear in. I have all the passwords for my Google business acct ,yelp, yp, etc.. In 7 months they have never asked me for these passwords. I am the only one who maintains these accts. So what are they doing for me??? Internet relevance?? After 7 months I don’t even show up on Google when I’m 4 miles away from my business. After reading all this I am begginging to accept that I have been lied to HIBU is not doing anything for me. Other than collecting money from my acct

    1. Wow, it amazes me how un-informed many are regarding the digital space and how to represent themselves online. By the way, the space is constantly changing. Yes, I work for Hibu and have for 10 years. We provide a great service and many tools for our customers to gage what their program is doing for them. It is amazing how many business owner will complain on their service when they don’t even know what they have. We (Hibu) all the information they need to know but “Most” will not even read their email. “Most” will NOT participate in the process of a digital review, or heck…the proofing process of their own website. The expection level is what is off 90% of the time. We can not help our customers if they do not give us the time to do our jobs!! But will be the first to Bitch and want our service for FREE when it does not go their way. I have been a business owner myself and completely understand that side of the desk as well. The pricing on this page is not accurate! Google and Facebook both have given Hibu top accreditations. There is NO digital company that is perfect in the space as the space is NOT perfect and it is extremely complicated but as companies go we are one of the best in the space and we do have reviews and data to prove it.

My job is to painstakingly coach and teach my clients on how to utilize the tools we provide but can I say, most do not take the time to do what they need to to fully understand it. It is overwhelming but bashing the company is not the answer either. Yes, our customer service side can get frustrating at times and there tends to be a communication gap based on understanding the terminology. A rep can help.

As for canceling a program, there are terms and conditions that need to be met in which the client signs and is responsible for understanding. Again, this is due to the lack of reading. Many times I have experienced Hibu giving credit where credit is due, sometimes just out of good faith. When I read some of the bad reviews, 9 out of 10 times it is out of not understanding or mis-understanding what was presented or exaggerated expectations.

Just my two cents. I have been on both sides as a rep and as a business owner.

      1. Well your Service is not Professional. Professional Companies do what they say and perform. They did not meet one time requirement. Hibu was put incorrect ads up without my approval of a service I did not provide. I am currently 31 days into the process and finally getting ads up that are incorrect as well. Now that they made a mistake they are saying it is going to be another 3 to 5 days before my ads are up and running. So I am currently 34 to 36 days without Advertising when I can go to FB and do it myself and have 100 leads. Companies that get bashed are Bashed for a reason. Because they don’t do what they say they are and still take your money. Bad form Hibu.

      2. Thank you for your insight. I agree many businesses don’t know what to do, or how to make sure they’re using their Advertising services correctly. However, that is your job to enlighten them. Your reps have the responsibility to help their clients understand how your services work, what it does and doesn’t do. It should also show monthly results. What have you accomplished for them and how is it benefitting their business. I’ve been in advertising for many years and I know first-hand how poorly YP has been for small business owners. I’ve actually been to seminars from the ex YP guy on how to sell against YP. What their business practices are and the way they manipulate businesses. So, I need to know exactly who your business is and what it is that you do and don’t do on behalf of my client.

    2. Three separate companies in our building used Hibu and have all been completely dissatisfied. The amount of different people I have had to speak with to resolve problems, all the issues we have had from day one and the terrible ads used (yes we provided them with ones we wanted – that they didn’t use). I would never recommend this company to anyone, EVER. We literally threw $12,000 out of the window. I will write and post a more constructive review soon to really breakdown how terrible they are.

    3. Hi Marlene,

I have been with HIBU for about 5 months and I did not see any results myself too. Many emails to the rep and she never return my emails, one time she said I call you back. What a nightmare this was and now I am finally done with them.

Try keeping your passwords to yourself and no one else. The only person who can make your site pop up is you, spend about 1 hour everyday and get your website working for you, that is what I am doing and I see alot more traffic and my sales has gone up to the roof. There are times that I must turn work done because I am way too busy, it is a good thing to have.

I wish you the best and good luck,

      Harry Irvine

  2. Learn how to use proper grammar if you’re going to write a negative review about Hibu. Also, your pricing parameters are ENTIRELY incorrect. There is no support fees, no one time payments, nothing you have mentioned in your post is accurate, Oliver. Hibu is the leading company in the industry, no other company has been around as long as Yellowbook.

    1. Tony,
you must work for Hibu then….all of my clients that used Hibu or similar services say the exact things listed here in this article. Companies like Hibu DO NOT CARE if the business is actually surviving off of their campaigns. At $100 a month how can ads for company run?! its absurd for a towing company alone ad spend is $1,500 minimum. Hibu and other companies like them are putting a bad taste in business owners mouths because they have no accountability and are essentially not holding true to their end of the deal.

    2. Hi Tony,

‘There is no support fees, no one time payments, nothing you have mentioned in your post is accurate.’

Your grammar is incorrect. The statement should be:

      ‘There ARE no support fees….’

Be careful when you throw stones. You may find that your domain is made of glass.

  3. HIBU is nothing more than high way robbery. Web optimization, partners w google yelp yellow pages mobile app? Maintenance of online presence? Charging my act 90 a month, yet I control all my online presence not once have they asked me for my yelp password or any other pw. Not once have they helped me become more relevant on the internet. They give you a comment card to give clients. So when clients leave you a review they go to the link provided by hibu. However, the review the client leaves you will only be on your hibu review page. They are not allowed to share it with google??? But yet they are partners and affiliated to google?? Only time my sales rep has called me and I mean harassed has been to try to sell me another service. I was advised that if we were not happy after 6 months, they will allow us to cancel. Nothing but BS. Now they deny ever saying that. And yes still they take 90 a month, I heard the only way to do away w hibu is to close your bank acct. The day a class action suits begin we will be first in line. Please people if your on a low budget just opened a company, please DO NOT fall for hibu.. They have honestly really messed things up for me. I could’ve used that money towards Google or fb adds.. BIG LESSON LEARNED

  4. I too am baffled by what Hibu does for my company. In a small business, Hibu does nothing for me. I purchased a Social standards package where Hibu takes credit for my marketing manager’s posts while doing nothing accept drafting my account. I do not need to know how to use Hibu’s tools and have never been coached. From the day that I contracted with Hibu, I have never been contacted again to do anything. I have been asking these competent service reps what they do and while they are polite, I am told what package I have. A total waste of time and money!!! If I do not understand what you do for me and you have not given me what you promised, what are you charging me for? It should be illegal.

    1. I agree totally! We pay them a lot of money and I see no results so they get credit for me promoting the Facebook page and the google business page before we had no updates being done and the company I work for has been paying them for many years now, the website wasn’t even working good and then we had them upgrade the page because they said it would be better and it was so messed up I h ad to go in and fix all of the mistakes took 3 months to get all of it done when we were promised 7-10 days. I am sorry for the money they are given they need to be doing a better job! for the first 3 yrs I was here no one ever called to check on the service to see how things were going until I started calling and complaining, we are currently trying to get out of our Hibu Contract!

  5. I have had quite a few clients come in with horror stories about Hibu. We have had to purchase new domain names, recreate Google MyBusiness, Analytics, Search Console, Etc. You name it, Hibu owns it. Not the business owner. It is really sad that companies structure models this way. Where is the integrity these days? Shame on you Hibu.

  6. This company is a hack They continue to take your money out of your account after you tell them to close your account. Of course, they will wait 2 months before continuing to charge you so you don’t notice the charges! Then switch you between ^ different agent just to tell you-you never canceled and you aren’t going to get canceled either!!! You will have to turn it in as fraud and turn your account off! REDICULOUS!

  7. Hibu is a complete scam. They literally did absolutely nothing for our company but took thousands of dollars from us. They even promised to do calls to keep us up to date with how their services were working for us and it’s been 6 months without any communication at all. We asked to cancel do to them doing literally nothing for us and they refused but still did nothing else to improve their service. I would recommend every single person avoids them at all costs.

  8. I owned my domain before I had HIBU redesign my web page. I was very hesitant to sign up with Hibu. The reviews are mediocre. I specifically asked the salesperson that if I ended my service what would happen. He stated that since the website resided on my domain that I would keep the content and design because I paid for the web page design. The design process was adequate and the much lauded video was a underwhelming but functional. 9 months later I want to cancel the service. HIBU representatives in the cancellation department shared that the webpage is not on my domain! Actually, it is on HIBU servers and that it mirrors back to my domain. Sneaky. Absolutely not what was shared with me. There is nothing in their onine legal documents that address my issue. If you want to pay a monthly fee for the life of your business then HIBU could work. If you simply need a webdesign and can figure out the hosting yourself then save yourself the recurring fee. I am pissed that between the incompetent salesperson and HIBU I did not get a straight answer. Another kick in the pants for this small business owner.

    1. It sounds like you still own the domain and that it’s still in your possession. If that’s true you can redirect your domain to another that you own, once it’s built, and tell Hibu to cancel your account.

  9. f there are any small or large business looking for a marketing firm PLEASE DO NOT HIRE HIBU. They do not keep their word, they lie to get you under contract and then let you know they no longer provide the services they sold. All of this while still keeping you in a contract paying for services they have discontinued.

I was sold the reviews due to they advise this would be a central location for customers to leave reviews and they would then be distributed across yelp, FB, Google, and website. I am now been told that this is not the case and it can only be copied and pasted well that is not even an option on Google. I was sold the Social program they have under the pretense of them posting on my FB up to 6 times a month only after month two of asking why no post have been made to be told they no longer offer the service. We have received zero calls from our search or listing campaign and have still been stuck in a contract paying for services they either do no offer or refuse to uphold their end of the deal. I want to make sure no other small business get stuck in a contract paying for services that will not help their company. Please do not hire HIBU to handle your marketing go with a local company that you can meet someone face to face.

  10. I’m currently searching for an internet marketing company, but who in the hell would want to sign up for a service when THEIR REPS are fighting with customers present or past? How unprofessional.

  11. HIBU is a scam. They say anything to get you to sign up, but don’t deliver on it, They send you made up monthly reports, which don’t match up with your actual phone calls and emails. Hibu is an internet scam and is run thru a Croatian I.P. address. If you try to cancel their “service” they continue to bill you and will send you to collections. Once you point out to them they are a scam they keep billing you without the fake reports.

    1. Hibu is terrible. I had a local sales rep come into my shop and sell me on Hibu. She told me that I would get a 6 month contract with the service I signed up for. I then decided that I was going to try this ad placement service as well. She told me that if I didn’t like the service after a month or two, I would be able to cancel. I was also informed that all of my services were to be on google. Well, unfortunately I cannot put ads on google due to the nature of my business. We didn’t find this out till after I signed up. When I tried to cancel, I was told I could not and that I was in a 12 month contract. I did answer their emails and their calls. I gave them product pics and we made our own ads for them as they advised us to do. They told us we had to create our own ads as they did not do that. They just piece stuff together and post it. We wanted key words. They put the key words right over our ad. I don’t know why?? We had to do some ad changes. We contacted them and we wouldn’t receive a response for up to two weeks. Email and phone. Then we would be contacted with an email saying we were given a new Digital Service Consultant. This has happened 3 times. I have sent emails after emails asking to cancel or to talk to my consultant and its been over a month since I’ve heard from them. So I called and some guy said he would help us and never got back to us. The local sales rep who signed us up? Never answers her phone, text or emails. Do Not Use Hibu!!!!! Terrible service. TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!

  12. Hibu is a sham! The company has been bleeding my father’s company dry for 10 years! They have been charging him $ 100 per month for web hosting and advertising in TWO PHONE BOOKS! Who uses a phone book??? The sales person assigned to his account Should be making sure the products and services fit. Most ethical companies will review a person’s account and adjust accordingly. Not Hibu! They’re laughing all the way to the bank. They don’t deserve to be in business!

  13. Businesses like HIBU can actually hurt your small businesses — people should be more mindful of the advice they give. Not all services are good. HIBU really hurt our small, family run business, taking us for $3600 over 12 months. I feel like an idiot and have since had MUCH more success managing my own Facebook marketing efforts for FAR less money. Stay away from HIBU.

  14. WARNING!!! WARNING!! DO NOT USE HIBU!!! As a small business, I was presented with a package to help manage my website and digital marketing at an affordable cost. What I got was nothing more than aggravation and hassle from a company with people that have no idea what they are doing. And of course, no live website or listing management or anything else I was promised.

The very simple project of getting a website up and running turned into a four month project with emails and phone calls that go unanswered. A salesperson that then says I should have gone through him to manage the process. They took two months just to get my email address corrected to log into the so called “DIY” tool.

I tried contacting my “representatives” for more than six months with ZERO response but still received emails of my “Hibu digital marketing results” with charts that are all FLATLINE!!!! And of course, they continue to bill my account.

This company is a SCAM!!!! Believe the reviews you are reading from real businesses getting ripped off by this joke of a company. They should be ashamed and they need to be held accountable for their actions.

  15. I wish that I had seen these reviews before letting HIBU in my door. This company is an outright SCAM, promising small businesses much and delivering nothing. Believe everything that you read here, folks. HIBU is all of this and much worse.

  16. We switched from Hibu to AdHawk which allows you to open and run your own Google Ad account. This is where the true costs are show from Google.

Hibu was charging a 40% premium per click. Totally not worth it.

  17. Hibu does not deliver what they promise.

Their contract effectively states they will “try” to perform some tasks, but they are under no obligation to accomplish what you are paying them for. I foolishly didn’t read the contract before signing and paying for it, and found this little fact out after I called and asked why, after 9 months, nothing has been accomplished.

It seems someone on their end pushed a couple buttons, gave up and said they “tried”, and now i’m contractually stuck with the bill because they put in the most minimal effort into the task.

Their sales person didn’t even give grand promises, but very simple realistic promises on what would be done. And yet they couldn’t even do a simple task like: create a listing for my company on a search service, with whom they are supposedly “partnered with”. I don’t even ask to be on the first page, let alone the top result, I just want some sort of listing to be there at all.

Save yourself some time, do yourself what they promise in less time than it takes to listen to their spiel.

  18. They talk a big game and seem to be very helpful, but what you get is a cafe splash page, no content, just a couple of robbed pictured from our old website. Plus they were cropped and of poor quality. They didn’t provide the website that we asked for or agreed to. We showed them working examples and they said no issue. It was 4 months and no real progress done. They spent under $25 on Facebook ads spamming our Facebook page. Their webpage said it would be optimized for mobile and was not. They stated we could end our contract at any time, but now we are being charged monthly for a worthless splash page. Would never use them again. Please see the following links to other reviewers. We just want our money back and to walk away from this horrible company.

    marketerscenter.com/blog…
(hidden charges, cannot follow through on promises)

    yelp.com/biz/hibu-king-o…
    (1.2 star rating)

    bbb.org/us/pa/kng-of-pru…
    (250 complaints)

  19. Scam.
Paying $2K a month for a small business with very few qualified leads. $30 k so far – waste of money.

Marketing rep did not even know how long we have been with company. Web site never updated. social media sites not developed. What are we paying for?

Defiantly not worth the money. Run
