How to Leverage Inbound Links for Your Website SEO

inbound links

What are inbound links

Inbound links, also called backlinks, are links from other websites that refer readers to your site. In the late 90s, Google introduced Pagerank to determine a website’s quality based on its inbound links. Now you might ask, why do SEO experts work hard to earn these links? It’s because inbound links help you get more website traffic and rank high on search engine results pages.

Importance of inbound links

Search engines consider inbound links as a “vote of confidence” to a website. If website A links to your website, it tells the search engines that your content is relevant, valuable, and trustworthy. Your content will be considered as an authority on that subject. Put simply, if your website has a lot of good inbound links, then you have more chances of ranking high on search engine results. And to top it off, your website will gain more traffic from visitors. It’s a no-brainer that you will benefit from referral traffic when someone features you by linking your website to their content.

However, inbound links are not easy to earn. In previous years, people found ways to abuse the system and made it easier to obtain these links. It consisted of various schemes such as link purchasing, link exchanging, and a lot more. Google caught up with the manipulation and put a stop to it by publishing  guidelines. Now, you can be severely penalized if Google learns that you have obtained compromised links.

How to Build Links for Your Site

Now that you know how essential inbound links are to your SEO strategy and how crucial it is to earn them properly, what are the best ways to obtain good quality links? No worries, we’ve got you covered. Let’s start with the most obvious one:

  1. Create great content

It’s a tried and tested way that will increase your chances of getting more links. You need to create ridiculously good content. But not just this, you also need to be consistent with it. If you have a blog that steadily produces great content, people will be more encouraged to link your website to their content. The inbound links will naturally come to you.

  1. Showcase your expertise on the subject

If you share your knowledge through your content, you can be considered an authority in your field. By providing facts backed-up by accurate data on your articles, readers will find your posts credible sources of information. Thus, they will link your articles as references to their content and direct their readers to your website.

  1. Look out for broken links

There are times when other websites use links that are old or not working anymore. It happens when you change your content, and the link gets taken out. Tools such as Ahrefs, SEMrush, and many more can help you identify these links so you can update them accordingly.

  1. Include social sharing buttons

For your site to get more exposure from other people, it’s essential to put your content out there. And what better platform allows you to do this? That’s right, social media. Make it easy for people to share your content on the social space by incorporating social sharing widgets in them.

  1. Build relationships through guest posting

It’s always a good idea to leverage your relationships. An existing relationship with a well-known blog or publisher will allow you to earn high-quality links for your website. Additionally, it’s always a good thing to expand your network through guest-posting for other blog sites. Through guest posting, you will be able to tap into the other site’s audience and redirect them to visit your site.

Remember, obtaining an inbound link from a website that’s considered important and relevant by search engines is highly valuable. Getting good inbound links from authoritative sources will significantly help your website’s SEO in the long run.
